KUCHING, Sept 15: The Sarawak government has channelled RM565 million to the Unit for Other Religions (UNIFOR) since its establishment, underscoring its vital role in preserving social harmony and religious freedom in the State.
According to a TVS news report, Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said the allocation included RM475 million for the construction and repair of houses of worship and RM90 million for mission schools.
“This allocation is not just numbers, but reflects our commitment to social harmony, religious freedom and equal opportunity,” he said.
His speech text was delivered by Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas during the Interfaith Thanksgiving Ceremony in conjunction with Sarawak-level Malaysia Day celebration held at a hotel in Bintulu last night (Sept 14).
Abang Johari stressed that progress in the state can only be achieved through unity and the spirit of ‘Segulai Sejalai’, while rejecting all forms of extremism that could undermine the harmony enjoyed by Sarawakians of diverse ethnic and religious backgrounds. — DayakDaily
