LUDINGTON, MI – Tickets for the S.S. Badger’s 2026 sailing season are on sale now. Offering unforgettable Lake Michigan crossings, the historic car ferry connects Ludington to Manitowoc, Wis. The 60-mile journey across the sparkling blue Great Lake takes about four hours. “The S.S. Badger is more than just a ferry; it’s a cherished maritime tradition that brings communities together and creates lasting memories for families and travelers alike,” said Thom Hawley, spokesperson for Lake Michigan Carferry. The 2026 season promises the nostalgic travel experience that thousands of passengers enjoy every year, and a convenient shortcut across Lake Michigan aboard a National Historic Landmark. Onboard amenities include restaurants and bars, Badger bingo, a movie theater, indoor and outdoor lounge areas, board games, a museum, a gift shop, and children’s activities. Daily roundtrip crossings will run May 15 to Oct. 11. Additional night crossings are scheduled for June 19 to Sept. 7. The Badger departs Ludington at 9 a.m. and arrives in Manitowoc, Wis., at noon after the four-hour trip (Wisconsin is one hour behind Michigan). The return trip begins at 2 p.m. with the ship docking in Ludington at 7 p.m. Standard season fares, June 19 to Sept. 7: Adults: one-way, $89; round trip, $178 Seniors and active military: one-way, $81; round-trip, $162 Children (5-15 years old): one-way, $44; round trip, $88 Children 4 and under: Always free Fares are reduced during the spring and fall shoulder seasons: May 15 to June 18; and Sept. 8 to Oct. 11. It is the last operating coal-fired passenger steamer in the United States. The 410-foot ship was recognized as a National Historic Landmark in 2016. It was originally designed to transport railcars across Lake Michigan.
