In a statement, local police outlined how officers had attempted to provide aid to the wounded man, described as a 28 year old tourist, but they were unable to save him. The two men, both from the UK, had reportedly been out celebrating in the bustling Erzsébetváros area before returning to the nearby flat, the Hungarian Bors outlet reported. “Around 3 a.m. we heard a fight, then a fight, then some smashing and smashing. Then it was suddenly quiet,” a witness told reporters. A row allegedly erupted which led to violence, authorities said, reports the Mirror . It is believed the incident occurred at the apartment which the two men had hired whilst partying in the city. The apartment blocks in the area they were staying are a tourist hotspot, according to local media, with many of the flats rented by holidaymakers rather than residents. Pictures from the scene depicted police officers on a balcony of one of the blocks, holding up a white tarpaulin to shield the victim from public view. Meanwhile, other officers were seen meticulously searching through rubbish in an attempt to locate the knife used in the stabbing. Terrified residents reported that the suspect was in the process of dragging the victim’s body along the corridor outside the holiday apartment when the police arrived. By the time the officers reached the scene, a pool of blood had already formed outside the door, according to stunned witnesses.
