UK supermarket launches its first ever meal deal that's the cheapest available

One of the UK’s biggest supermarket chains has just launched its own meal deal. Costing under £4, it is currently the cheapest around. From today, Wednesday, September 17, Asda has replaced its ‘three for two’ deal at its Food to Go counters with its first ever meal deal that is now available to buy in store and online . It costs just £3.74 for a main, snack and a drink, all without the need for a loyalty card, making it the lowest price for a non-membership deal out of every other supermarket. By comparison, Tesco’s meal deal costs £4.25 for non Clubcard members, while Sainsbury’s charges £3.95 and Morrisons £4 for the exact same lunchtime offering. Asda customers will be pleased to know that the meal deal is available to buy on its website and at all 1,106 stores across the UK. Those who are looking for a convenience when travelling will also be able to shop the affordable deal at any of Asda’s 478 Express stores across the country. There’s also a huge variety on offer, with shoppers able to choose from 132 mains, 336 snacks and 222 drinks, saving themselves up to 50 percent compared to buying the items individually outside of the deal. Available in the deal will be a few own-branded ‘To Go’ products such as the Asda Chicken and Bacon Sandwich and Asda Apple Slices with Toffee Dip. There’s also a few branded favourites including Doritos Tangy Cheese Tortilla Grab Bag Crisps and Coca Cola Zero. Considering the popularity of the offer elsewhere, the ‘Big Four’ supermarket chain has predicted it will sell over 700,000 meal deals in its first week, with its current bestselling main being the classic Asda Cheese & Onion Sandwich that is said to sell over 50,000 a week. Commenting on the launch, Amy Wotherspoon, the Buyer of Food to Go at Asda says: “At Asda, we believe great value should be available to everyone. “That’s why we’re launching the new £3.74 Meal Deal that is completely open to all customers – with no app or membership required, and a big range of products to choose from so there’s something for everyone.” It comes after rival Tesco sparked outrage among customers by once again increasing the price of its own meal deal by 25p for all shoppers back in August. Clubcard members are now charged £3.85 for its regular deal and £5.50 for its premium deal, while regular customers are charged £4.25 and £6 for the same deals respectively. It marked the third time in recent years that Tesco had increased the price of its lunchtime staple, beginning in 2022 when it raised priced for the first time in a decade. Asda’s meal deal at the fixed price of £3.74 is now available to shop online and at all Asda supermarkets and Express stores.
