UK shoppers warned 'do not eat' as popular crisps recalled over health risk

UK shoppers are being urged not to eat a specific brand of crisps. An allergy alert has found that the snack may be unsuitable for some consumers. Convenience retailer One Stop is recalling its own brand Mature Cheddar & Red Onion Hand Cooked Crisps as they contain milk, an ingredient that has not been mentioned on the list of ingredients. An allergy alert posted to the Food Standards Agency (FSA) on October 1 has advised that this means the crisps “pose a possible health risk for anyone with an allergy or intolerance to milk or milk constituents.” The FSA alert explains that the affected product has a pack size of 150g, with best before dates including February 17, 2026, February 18, 2026 and February 23, 2026. One Stop said in its own recall notice: “We are recalling-three date codes of One Stop Mature Cheddar & Red Onion Flavour Hand Cooked Crisps 150g as they may contain milk which is not declared on the label.” As a result, shoppers are being urged not to consume the affected bags of crisps, but instead to return them to the store they were bought from to receive a full refund, with no receipt required. The retailer has also contacted the relevant allergy support organisations, whilst also issuing point of sale notices that explain the full details of the recall into stores that sell the affected item. One Stop further said: “One Stop apologises to our customers for any inconvenience caused. If you require further details, please contact Customer Services directly on: UK 01543 363 133.” One Stop is a convenience retail chain that is a subsidiary of supermarket giant Tesco. It currently operates at least 1,000 stores across England, Scotland and Wales. Allergy alerts are generally posted by the FSA when there is a problem with a food item that means it should not be sold, leading to it either being ‘withdrawn’ from store shelves or ‘recalled’ from consumers. Just last week, TK Maxx issued its own urgent recall for multiple packets of chocolate biscuits that were also found to contain an undeclared ingredient, making them unsafe for some consumers. Six flavours of the high street giant’s Les Florentins Chocolat Biscuits (100g) contain gluten, with shoppers who suffer from a coeliac disease or an allergy to gluten being urged “do not eat.” Multiple batch codes and best before dates were affected by the recall, with the biscuits said to have been sold in stores between June and September 2025. It’s not just food products being recalled recently, as a popular home product sold at Sainsbury’s has been pulled from shelves as it prove “toxic” to both humans and animals if consumed. The Habitat Seed Pod Bowl Filler was recalled as the seeds within the pods could be harmful to both humans and animals if consumed, although the outer shell is safe to touch. It was also discovered that the garden item fails to comply with the General Product Safety Regulations 2005.
