UK households have been urged to charge mobile phones before 9am on Saturday morning . The warning centres around the prospect of flooding, with the Met Office issuing yellow weather alerts for swathes of the country. Where flooding occurs, there is a slight chance of delays or cancellations to train and bus services. In a warning which takes effect at 9am tomorrow, the Met Office says spray and flooding could lead to difficult driving conditions and some road closures. It adds there is a small chance of fast flowing or deep floodwater causing danger to life. A band of rain, heavy at times, across Wales, northern England and southern Scotland is expected to remain slow-moving during Saturday morning before making erratic eastward progress, eventually clearing early on Sunday. It says: “It’s never too late to take action and prepare for flooding. Follow these 6 simple steps to protect your home or business. “Check the flood advice in your area to know when and where flooding will happen. Charge mobile phone devices. Park your car outside the flood zone. “Prepare a flood kit to help you cope in the event of flooding to your home and business. Store valuables up high, including electrical devices, important documents and furniture. “Turn off gas water and electricity supplies.” Whilst there is still some uncertainty in the focus for the heaviest rainfall, 20-30 mm of rain is likely to fall quite widely and there is a chance that 60-80 mm of rain could fall in places. These higher accumulations may not be confined to high ground only. Due to this uncertainty, further changes to the warning area are possible. As the area of rain clears east, a spell of strong northwesterly winds may develop later Saturday and Sunday morning, most likely towards North Sea coasts.
