UK donates Explosives Counter-Equipment to Somali National Army

Mogadishu (HOL) — Somali government on Thursday received
vehicles and modern equipment from the United Kingdom aimed at strengthening
the country’s capacity to counter explosives.

The handover ceremony in Mogadishu was attended by Defense
Minister Ahmed Macalin Fiqi, Somali National Army (SNA) Commander Gen. Odowaa
Yusuf Raage, British Ambassador to Somalia Charles King, and other senior

Minister Fiqi said the new vehicles and equipment will
enhance the skills and operational capabilities of the Somali National Army,
particularly in countering improvised explosive devices (IEDs). He expressed
gratitude to the UK government for its continued support.

“This donation reflects the UK’s firm commitment to building
the capabilities of the Somali National Army. It will greatly improve the
safety and effectiveness of our operations,” Fiqi stated.

The minister also stressed that Somalia’s strategic
partnership with the UK is vital to achieving lasting peace, stability, and
sustainable development.

The UK remains one of Somalia’s key security partners,
providing support across multiple areas of defense, counterterrorism, and
state-building.
