Three local educators are going to be honored during the University of Idaho football game Saturday. The UI’s College of Education, Health and Human Sciences announced its 2025 Vandal Outstanding Educator Award winners Wednesday. These K-12 teachers were chosen for their “lasting impact” on students, according to a UI news release. They will be celebrated during the football game’s halftime ceremony in the Kibbie Dome. Moscow teacher Rebecca Sager is one of the winners. The Lena Whitmore Elementary kindergarten teacher is being recognized for facing challenges during the past year, including helping her class cope with the death of a student and helping families through hardship. “Through it all, she showed grace, empathy and leadership,” the UI news release says. She also fosters a safe and inclusive classroom, the university says. Potlatch principal Doug Richards is another local winner. The Potlatch Junior-Senior High School educator taught music for 25 years. He now serves as principal of the school and “continues to lead with enthusiasm and optimism.” “A proud Vandal alumnus, he models lifelong learning and community engagement, uplifting both students and staff through every challenge and success,” the news release says. Moscow teacher Jeanette Humphreys is also being honored. She is a teacher in the UI’s VandalQuest program, which is designed to educate students with intellectual and developmental disabilities. “Humphreys’ dedication extends far beyond academics — she helps students rediscover their potential and find pride in their progress,” the news release says. “Her impact is a testament to the power of patience, empathy and the enduring human connection at the heart of education.” The other winners include Parma School District teacher Monique Jensen, Post Falls High School teacher Christopher Johnson and Lowell Scott Middle School (Boise) teacher Chance Wilson.
