Manish R. Joshi, Secretary, University Grants Commission (UGC), New Delhi, has urged faculty members leading the Education Ministry’s training initiatives to offer innovative training mechanisms. Inaugurating the recent 4th Regional Workshop of Malaviya Mission Teacher Training Centres (MMTTCs), Southern Zone, at Pondicherry University, Mr. Joshi highlighted the role of MMTTCs and their significance. The UGC aims to conduct training and capacity building for around 15 lakh faculty members and non-teaching staff throughout the country through the MMTTCs, he said. Advising MMTTC directors to devise innovative training methods through networking with other units to come up with specialised programmes. The MMTTC programmes are to be regularly evaluated to understand the real impact of the training. He also suggested using artificial intelligence for the training and development of teachers and students. The two-day workshop, which aimed to enhance teacher training and education in the southern region, provided a platform for sharing knowledge, exchanging ideas, and developing innovative strategies to enhance teacher training and education, a press note from Pondicherry University said. P. Prakash Babu, Vice Chancellor, Pondicherry University, highlighted the recent initiatives of MMTTC of Pondicherry University in conducting various training programmes for the betterment of teaching and research. Among those who participated were J.K. Trepathi, UGC Joint Secretary, Clement Lourdes Sagayaradja, Director of Culture and Cultural Relations, Pondicherry University, Rajneesh Bhutani, Registrar, P.G. Arul, Director, MMTTC, and the nodal officer for the workshop, D. Lazar, Finance Officer, Vijyakumar, Librarian, MMTTC Directors from across the southern zone, and delegates from the Ministry of Education and UGC. Several valuable inputs for policy formulation and implementation, that would ultimately benefit the academic community and the nation at large, emerged during the event, the University said.
