Doha, November 09 (QNA) - Doha University for Science and Technology (UDST) held the 4th National Symposium on Diabetes Care under the theme: "Transforming Diabetes Care for Well‑Being: Innovations in Education, Research, and Person‑Centered Practice". The event emphasized advancing patient‑centered approaches, promoting innovative education and research, and enhancing the quality of care for diabetes patients nationwide. Convened in collaboration with a variety of concerned and specialized entities, the symposium weighed in on the latest developments, challenges, and opportunities in the field of caring for people with diabetes and preventing the illness. It convened domestic and international healthcare experts and addressed the agenda on metabolic health, showcasing a holistic scientific program that featured key lectures during which experts weighed in, as well as interactive panel discussions that drilled down on numerous subjects such as diabetes treatment. The discussions also addressed innovations in managing cardiovascular disease and atherosclerosis risks, comprehensive patient‑centered care, and integrating mental health and behavioral modification into diabetes management, in addition to highlighting structured diabetes patient education and multidisciplinary approaches to optimize metabolic health outcomes. The symposium included a panel discussion on the National Health Strategy 2024-2030 and the action plan to combat obesity, diabetes, and modifiable risk factors for atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease, highlighting the nation's efforts in preventing and treating childhood obesity and promoting a comprehensive, multidisciplinary approach to non-communicable disease care across Qatar. The program also featured an exhibition showcasing the contributions of leading healthcare and academic institutions in diabetes care, research, and education in Qatar, underscoring UDST's commitment to advancing healthcare education and research in line with Qatar's national vision for sustainable health development. In addition, the program highlighted an exhibition that showcased the contributions rendered by leading health and academic institutions in the field of caring for individuals with diabetes, as well as research and education in Qatar, underlining UDST's commitment to advancing education and research in the healthcare field, in commensurate with the national vision. UDST President Dr. Salem bin Nasser Al Naemi affirmed that the university is proud to be a platform that combines education, research, and practice to unify efforts in confronting salient national challenges. This symposium embodies the commitment to building occupational capacities and boosting innovation in educating individuals with diabetes, contributing to national efforts aimed at reducing chronic illnesses, Dr. Al Naemi underlined. He added that through collaboration and applied research, as well as academic excellence, the university intends to empower the health workforce and support a wholesome and enduring future for all. Speaking at the symposium, Dr. Dabia Al Mohanadi, Division Chief of Endocrine and Director of the Qatar Metabolic Institute (QMI) at Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC), said the collaborative intent is to provide top-notch and patient-centered integrated humanitarian healthcare. While HMC is dealing with individuals with diabetes, obesity, and cardiovascular diseases, it is aware that these cases are profoundly intertwined and require multidisciplinary and coordinated solutions, Dr. Dabia highlighted. She further noted that through collaboration and knowledge exchange, the corporation diligently continues to advance healthcare for the best interest of patients and homeland. Director of the Department of Non‑Communicable Diseases Prevention Programs at the Ministry of Public Health (MoPH), Sheikh Dr. Mohamed bin Hamad Al-Thani, told QNA that the National Diabetes Strategy has made a breakthrough in terms of mitigating the burden on individuals with diabetes. He noted the tremendous collaboration between the competent authorities in controlling this disease and strengthening awareness on the national stage, stressing the importance of training, research, and personal practices in combating this illness, along with the effective role of health campaigners in this respect.
