UDS Makes History at Universities World Football Tournament in China – Vice President Hails Achievement as Pride for Ghana and Africa

Vice President, Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, has extended heartfelt congratulations to the University for Development Studies (UDS) for their groundbreaking performance at the ongoing Universities World Football Tournament in China.
The Tamale-based institution has etched its name into the history books as the first African university to qualify for the quarterfinals of the prestigious global competition. The Vice President described the achievement as a “proud and inspirational moment for Ghana and the entire African continent.”
In a message shared on her official social media platforms, Professor Opoku-Agyemang commended the UDS team for their resilience, hard work, and determination, noting that their performance has showcased the sporting talent and potential that exists within Ghanaian universities.
She emphasized that the UDS feat not only highlights the importance of investing in sports at the tertiary level but also reinforces the need to give Ghanaian students more opportunities on the international stage.
“This historic milestone by UDS is a reminder that with dedication, discipline, and teamwork, our institutions can compete and excel globally,” the Vice President stated.
