Two women held for smuggling 10 kg ganja in Erode

Two women who smuggled 10 kg of ganja and were transporting it to the city were arrested by the police here on Monday (October 27, 2025). The police received a tip-off that ganja was being smuggled in a train from Odisha to Kodumudi and from there to Erode by bus. Acting on the information, Erode South police intercepted the bus at Solar Roundabout and conducted a search. They found the banned contraband in the possession of L. Saraswathi (70) and N. Lakshmi (70), both residents of Rajajipuram in Karungalpalayam. The police seized the ganja and took the duo to the police station. A case was registered, and both were produced before the court and remanded in judicial custody. In a press release, Superintendent of Police A. Sujatha warned that strict action would be taken against those involved in such offences. The release added that persons engaged in selling arrack, illicit liquor, ganja, or other contraband substances would be detained under the Goondas Act. The public has been urged to inform the police about such activities, and their identities would be kept confidential.
