Two sexual harassment cases reported in Bengaluru; police launch probe

Bengaluru: The Indiranagar police are searching for a man accused of sexually harassing a 33-year-old woman while she was on her morning walk in the Doopanahalli area. The incident took place on November 1 and has raised fresh concerns about women’s safety in the city. Woman alleges public indecency near Doopanahalli According to the complaint filed by the woman, the incident occurred around 11.57 a.m. near Wind Chimes Apartment, located on 5th Main Road, 2nd Stage, Domlur. The complainant stated that an unidentified man approached her, exposed himself, and began masturbating in public. Shocked and terrified, she immediately ran towards her residence to ensure her safety. The woman described the accused as being around 30 years old, of dark complexion, and wearing a black T-shirt and blue jeans. After informing her neighbour and confiding in a friend, she was advised to report the matter to the police. Following her complaint, the Indiranagar police registered a case under sections related to obscene acts in public, sexual harassment, and intention to outrage the modesty of a woman. Efforts are underway to trace the accused based on the description provided by the survivor. Police officials said they are also examining nearby CCTV footage for possible leads. A senior police officer from the Indiranagar Police Station stated, “We have formed teams to identify the suspect. Based on the description and available footage, we are confident of making an arrest soon.” Actor files sexual harassment case against cyberstalker In a separate incident, a Kannada and Telugu television actress lodged a sexual harassment complaint against a man who allegedly sent her obscene messages and explicit videos on Facebook. The Annapoorneshwari Nagar police acted swiftly and arrested the accused, identified as Naveen, on November 1. According to the police, the accused had sent a friend request to the actress around three months ago from the Facebook account ‘NAVEENZ’. When she did not accept it, he allegedly began sending vulgar messages through Messenger. Despite repeated warnings from the actress to stop, the accused continued harassing her, sending obscene photos and videos of his private parts from multiple fake accounts after being blocked. Actress confronts accused before filing complaint The complainant told police that she had agreed to meet the accused near Nandan Palace in Nagarabhavi around 11.30 a.m. on November 1 to warn him in person. However, when the harassment resumed shortly afterward, she decided to file a formal complaint. Based on her statement, the Annapoorneshwari Nagar police registered a case under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Information Technology (IT) Act, pertaining to sexual harassment and obscene electronic communication. Rising concerns over women’s safety in Bengaluru Both incidents have reignited discussions over women’s safety in public and digital spaces. Cybercrime and public harassment cases in Bengaluru have seen a sharp rise in recent months, prompting calls for stronger surveillance and faster police response. Legal experts say both offenders, if convicted, could face up to three years of imprisonment along with fines under Sections 354A and 509 of the IPC, and Section 67 of the IT Act. Citizens and women’s groups have urged the government to increase street surveillance, especially in residential areas, and to implement public awareness campaigns against sexual misconduct. While investigations continue in both cases, police officials assured that the accused in both incidents would be brought to justice soon.
