Bargaon: Panic gripped the residents here in Sundargarh district as two children were found infected with the dreaded scrub typhus disease. Cases of scrub typhus continue to rise in areas under the Bargaon block of Sundargarh district. While two persons, including a woman and a man from Salepali village, succumbed to the infection last month, several others have reportedly been affected. Last week, one-year-old Aadya Senapati, daughter of Deepak Senapati from Jarangloi village under Bargaon block, was bitten by an insect. A blood test at a local clinic confirmed she was infected with scrub typhus. Similarly, four-year-old Ayush Senapati, son of Mantu Senapati from the same village, was bitten by an insect about 10 days ago and also tested positive for the disease. Health workers said the fact that children are getting infected even while staying indoors has caused growing concern among parents, particularly mothers, who are now living in fear of this invisible insect.
