PROPERTIES valued at N$42,094 were stolen in two separate incidents of housebreaking at Ondangwa on Tuesday.
In both cases, the houses were broken into while the occupants were inside, but fast asleep.
In one incident, a 36-year-old resident of Fantasia Flats in Ondangwa’s Extension 4 was awoken by movements inside his room and noticed two unknown men with covered faces packing his belongings into bags.
He confronted them but was promptly threatened by one of the intruders, who pointed what is believed to be a firearm at him, warning him against making any movements.
The suspects fled the scene after packing whatever valuables they could find.
The complainant informed the police that he observed them boarding a getaway vehicle.
Stolen items, valued at N$19,374, included an iPhone 11, which was later traced through iCloud and subsequently recovered at Oshikango in the Ohangwena Region.
According to the police, the individual in whose possession the device was found stated that he purchased it from an unknown person.
The other housebreaking incident also happened at Ondangwa the same day. The complainant, aged 42, informed the police that he locked his house before going to bed, but when he woke up the next morning the door was open and the burglars had stolen a variety of items valued at a total of N$22,720 and caused damage of N$13,500.
The police found two shoeprints at the scene, but no suspect was arrested and the stolen items were not recovered.
