Two children are said to be among three migrants who have died after attempting to cross the English Channel overnight. French authorities reported the deaths overnight (September 9) with officials suggesting the three individuals were “likely crushed” to death at the bottom of a boat carrying migrants in the English Channel off the coast of Pas-de-Calais on Tuesday night into Wednesday morning. Laurent Touvet, the region’s prosecutor, said the two children died in the crossing in a news conference. He added the three people who had died were “likely crushed at the bottom of the boat,” blaming smugglers for the deaths of the individuals. The state is determined to combat them. “Thanks to the police, gendarmes, firefighters, civil protection volunteers, EPDAHAA agents, local elected officials, and the mobilized sea rescue services for assisting the shipwrecked.” As well as the tragic deaths of the three people, the French officials also said there were three other people involved in a separate nearby incident, the Mirror reported.
