The arrests were made this morning by investigators. The investigation followed the incident at the Drogheda Ipas centre attacked on Friday night last, as CCTV footage appears to show a man setting the stairs alight. Firefighters rescued five people, including a baby, from the top floor of the building in the town’s George’s Street area. Advertisement As a result of the blaze, 28 residents are now homeless but the State has given them emergency accommodation. The CCTV footage shows a man wearing a dark blue puffer jacket with his hood up and gloves set the stairs alight before leaving the centre through the front door. A garda spokesman confirmed the arrests of the two men. “Gardaí in Drogheda, who continue to investigate all of the circumstances surrounding a fire at a residential property in Drogheda, Co. Louth on Friday, 31st October 2025, have arrested two men. “A male (aged in his 20’s) was arrested in Co. Louth on Wednesday night, 5th November 2025, for alleged offences under the Criminal Damage Act 1991. He is currently detained under the provisions of Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984, at a Garda Station in the Co. Louth area. “This morning, Thursday, a second male (also aged in his 20’s) was arrested for alleged offences under the Criminal Damage Act 1991. He is also currently detained pursuant to Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984, at a Garda Station in the Co. Louth area,” he said.
