Two men have been arrested for robbing a collection agent of about ₹45.68 lakh near Koyambedu after threatening him with a weapon. Police seized a two-wheeler and three mobile phones, while the search is on for other suspects. Narayanan, 35, of Chinmaya Nagar has been working as a collection agent for Santhakumar, who owns a vegetable shop at Koyambedu market. He regularly collects money from shops in the Koyambedu and Broadway areas On Monday evening, Narayanan was carrying a total collection of ₹45.68 lakh in a bag. He was heading to Koyambedu from Parry’s Corner in a two-wheeler. When he was near a firm in Koyambedu, two men on a two-wheeler deliberately hit his vehicle, making him fall down with the bag which had the cash. The two immediately took the bag and tried to escape on their two-wheeler. When Narayanan attempted to catch them, they threatened him with a knife and fled. Narayanan chased them on his two-wheeler and managed to intercept them near Ganga Nagar, Maduravoyal. There again, the culprits threatened him with a knife. With public gathering at the spot, the two men abandoned their two-wheeler but escaped with the bag. Based on Narayanan’s complaint, the Crime Wing of Koyambedu Police Station registered a case and began an investigation. The police arrested two suspects who have been identified as Ayyappan alias Ramesh, 24, and Haja Mohaideen, 26, from Tirunelveli District. Three mobile phones including an iPhone, and the two-wheeler used in the incident were seized from them. Police teams are actively searching for other absconding suspects connected to the case.
