The Ghana TVET Service Management has promptly initiated disciplinary measures against three Heads of Technical Institutes due to credible reports regarding unauthorized fee collection and extortion occurring within their institutions. The institutions involved include the Agona Swedru Technical Institute located in the Central Region, the Sunyani Technical Institute in the Bono Region, and the Madina Technical Institute in the Greater Accra Region. As stated by the Ghana TVET Service, the allegations pertain to the imposition of various unapproved fees, such as admission charges, payments for boarding protocols, fees for altering residential status from day to boarding, charges for fashion practical items, bedsheet payments, and levies related to the Parent-Teacher Association. Management emphasized that these actions contravene the government’s Free TVET Policy, which ensures free access to technical and vocational education, and contradict the Service’s directive aimed at fostering fairness and transparency in school admissions. In light of these developments, the Service has established investigative committees to carry out a comprehensive and unbiased investigation into the allegations. The details regarding the composition of these committees will be disclosed in due time, and their findings will assist Management in deciding on further disciplinary actions. Until the investigations are concluded, the Heads of the three institutions have been placed on a 30-day administrative leave, effective immediately. During this interim period, their responsibilities have been delegated to the respective Regional Directors, who will manage the daily operations of the schools in addition to their usual duties. The appointed Regional Directors are: Madam Hannah Asamoah, Central Regional Director — Agona Swedru Technical Institute Mr. Gabriel Gyamfi, Bono Regional Director — Sunyani Technical Institute Engr. Juliana Nkrumah, Greater Accra Regional Director — Madina Technical Institute The Ghana TVET Service has reiterated its strict zero-tolerance stance against corruption, extortion, and any misconduct that jeopardizes the integrity of the TVET system. “Management is steadfast in its commitment to ensuring accountability, transparency, and fairness in the administration of Technical and Vocational Education and Training institutions throughout Ghana,” the statement indicated. Additionally, the Service reassured parents, students, and the general public of its ongoing dedication to safeguarding the integrity of the admission process and upholding the highest standards of professionalism across all TVET institutions nationwide.
