If you are looking for things to do with the whole family, a trip to a zoo or a wildlife park is usually an easy crowd-pleaser. While Cambridgeshire has a few farms and animal experiences to choose from, you might want to make a whole day out of the trip and travel to somewhere different.
Jimmy’s Farm and Wildlife Park is an award-winning experience with over 100 different animal species and breeds to see and is run by farmer and TV presenter Jimmy Doherty. Found just outside of Ipswich, the farm park is easy to reach from Cambridgeshire and has plenty to things to do including animal experiences and an adventure playground.
The park is home to Europe’s largest polar bear reserve, called the Lost Lands of the Tundra. The area is also home to a range of other animals, including arctic wolves, reindeer, and arctic foxes.
While walking around the park, you will also see a range of other mammals such as goats, lemurs, zebras. There’s also plenty to see for fans of reptiles and bugs with tortoises, lizards, crocodiles, and beetles all being found at the park.
If you want to get closer to the animals, there are a range of animal experiences available to get involved in that start from £60 to £250. From feeding the animals to bathing them, there are many opportunities to make the day even more exciting.
Alongside seeing the animals, there is an adventure playground on the site featuring a giant sandpit, ropes to climb on, and swings. You can also take a walk through the woodland area with a coffee, and if you are lucky, you might bump into some Muntjac deer.
If you need a bite to eat after exploring the park, you can head to the Barn restaurant and coffee house. The Barn has both a breakfast and lunch menu with a range of main meals and small dishes as well as a children’s menu.
The park is open seven days a week from 10am to 4pm during the winter season with the last admission being at 3pm. Tickets for the park when bought in advance online cost £23 for adults and £18.50 for children with children under two going in for free.
Jimmy’s Farm and Wildlife Park is just over an hour away from Cambridge by car via the A14. There is a free car park on site for visitors to use.
