The Minister of State for Education, Chief (Dr) Maruf Tunji Alausa, has been honoured with the prestigious chieftaincy title of “Mene Zinakpa I of Tai” (The Academic Star I) by His Royal Majesty, King Samuel L. A. Nnee, and the Kpite Council of Traditional Rulers of Tai Kingdom. The conferment, which took place in a grand ceremony in Tai, Rivers State, recognizes Dr. Alausa’s outstanding contributions to education, innovation, and national development, particularly his leadership in establishing the Federal University of Environment and Technology, Koroma/Saakpenwa, in Ogoni land. In his acceptance remarks, the newly titled Mene Zinakpa I expressed profound humility and gratitude, describing the honour as both a recognition and a renewed call to duty. “I accept this title with deep gratitude and an even greater sense of responsibility,” he said. “It strengthens my resolve to fast-track the development of the Federal University of Environment and Technology and to expand access to quality education, innovation, and opportunity for the people of Ogoni and Nigeria.” Dr. Alausa pledged to ensure the university emerges as a global centre of excellence in environmental science and technology, fully aligned with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda. He extended appreciation to the Tai monarch, the Council of Chiefs, elders, the university’s Governing Council, Vice-Chancellor, management, staff, and the entire Ogoni community for their unwavering support and partnership. “Together, we will build an institution that empowers generations and drives sustainable development,” he affirmed. The event was attended by traditional rulers, community leaders, academic stakeholders, and dignitaries who celebrated the minister’s commitment to educational transformation in the Niger Delta region. The title Mene Zinakpa, meaning “Academic Star” symbolizes enlightenment, leadership, and visionary progress, qualities the Tai Kingdom said Dr. Alausa has consistently demonstrated. With this investiture, Dr. Alausa joins a select group of national figures honoured by the Tai Kingdom, further cementing his legacy in education and community development.
