Yesterday was the easy part. Today was expected to be the day of jeopardy for Sir Keir Starmer as the focus of Donald Trump’s second state visit turned to trade and politics.

But he appears to have emerged unscathed from his press conference with the US President. They were still at odds over Palestinian statehood, energy policy and other issues but the tone between the two was warm with President Trump reserving his harshest words for Vladimir Putin.
