It looks like we’re heading for a government shutdown at midnight tonight. Republicans and Democrats are locked in a standoff over Affordable Care Act subsidies, and negotiations seem to have ground to a halt.
But don’t worry, America, President Donald Trump is focused on important stuff, like posting this bizarre deepfake clip of Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (right) and House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (in a sombrero, for some reason). The video was shared on Truth Social shortly after Trump met with the two representatives in an attempt to avert a government shutdown.
In the video, Mexican music plays while an AI-generated version of Schumer says, “Look, guys, there’s no way to sugarcoat it. Nobody likes Democrats anymore. We have no voters left because of all of our woke trans bullshit. Not even Black people want to vote for us anymore.”
“Even Latinos hate us, so we need new voters, and if we give all these illegal aliens free healthcare, we might be able to get them on our side so they can vote for us. They can’t even speak English, so they won’t realize we’re just a bunch of woke pieces of shit, you know, at least for a while, until they learn English and they realize they hate us, too.”

Trump has been attempting to blame Democrats for the impending shutdown by making the false claim that they’re demanding free healthcare for undocumented immigrants. In fact, Democrats are working to extend the Covid-era ACA subsidies that lower healthcare premium costs for Americans who get their health insurance coverage through their state’s exchange. Undocumented people are not eligible for these plans.
On Twitter, Jeffries responded to Trump’s video, writing, “Bigotry will get you nowhere. Cancel the Cuts. Lower the Cost. Save Healthcare. We are NOT backing down.”
And Sen. Schumer shared a video of his own, captioned, “No AI necessary.” The video shows Trump in 2011 saying, “If there is a shutdown, I think it would be a tremendously negative mark on the president of the United States. He’s the one that has to get people together.”

Of course, plenty of other people chimed in, too. Some replies look like this:
But many people are not very happy about Trump’s post. One person wrote, “You’re 80 years old, run a country built by immigration and foreign labor, and trying to actively deny funding health care to immigrants and foreigners on your land. I don’t think you’ll make it to that Heaven you’ve been talking about, but that’s just me.”
Another person tweeted, “I’d punish my children for this behavior.”
Someone else tweeted, “Glad the president is working hard to keep the government open.”
Someone else wrote, “This is one of the most demented things Trump has posted.”
