Trump revises jet count in India-Pakistan conflict, claims he prevented nuclear war

PTC Web Desk: There seems to be no end to US President Donald Trump’s fascination with the India-Pakistan conflict. Once again, he has made exaggerated and unverified claims about his role in bringing peace between the two neighbours. Speaking at the America Business Forum in Miami, Trump revised his earlier claim, saying that eight fighter jets were shot down during the three-day hostilities in May.“I was in the middle of a trade deal with both India and Pakistan, and then I read they were going to war. Seven planes were shot down, and the eighth was badly damaged — eight in total,” Trump said. He added that his trade threats pushed both countries to agree to a ceasefire.Over the past few months, Trump has made several inconsistent statements about the incident, earlier claiming that five and later seven aircraft were destroyed. However, he has never clarified which side suffered the losses.India has admitted to losing aircraft during the conflict but maintains that 8–10 Pakistani fighter jets, including US-made F-16s and Chinese JF-17s, were destroyed during the operation, both on the ground and in the air.Trump also repeated his earlier assertion that his intervention prevented a potential nuclear war between the two nations. “They are nuclear powers. I told them no trade deals unless peace was restored,” he said. According to Trump, both sides agreed to a ceasefire within 24 hours, which he credited to his tariff threats.
