Trump Launches Second Strike on Venezuelan Alleged “Drug Boats”
President Donald Trump said that on Monday U.S. forces struck a second boat carrying drugs from Venezuela to the United States. This time killing 3 people.
“The Strike resulted in 3 male terrorists killed in action. No U.S. Forces were harmed in this Strike. BE WARNED — IF YOU ARE TRANSPORTING DRUGS THAT CAN KILL AMERICANS, WE ARE HUNTING YOU!” Trump wrote in a social media post.
He told reporters at the White House that the boat carried “big bags of cocaine and fentanyl all over the place” and insisted the strike occurred in international waters.
Trump’s announcement came after Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro condemned a previous strike that killed 11 people as a “heinous crime.” Trump maintains that Maduro leads “one of the largest cocaine trafficking networks in the world” and accused him of sending drugs and criminals to the United States.
The strike is part of Trump’s push to combat drug trafficking. On Monday, Trump designated countries including Venezuela, Colombia, Bolivia, Afghanistan, and Burma as having “failed demonstrably” to uphold counternarcotics agreements.
Trump also listed Belize and 23 other countries as “major drug transit or major illicit drug producing countries.”
Trump defended the use of lethal military force, saying the cartels are now treated as terrorist organisations.
