(Gray News) – The Trump administration is expected to link autism to Tylenol use during pregnancy on Monday.
On Sunday at the memorial service for conservative activist Charlie Kirk, President Donald Trump said he would be making a major announcement about autism on Monday.
“I think we found an answer to autism. How about that? Autism. Tomorrow, we’re going to be talking in the Oval Office and the White House about autism, how it happens, so we won’t let it happen anymore. And how to get at least somewhat better when you have it so that parents can help their child, their beautiful child,” Trump said.
Published reports say the announcement is expected to link the development of autism in children with the use of Tylenol during pregnancy, along with a folate deficiency. Pregnant women often take the vitamin to help their baby’s brain and spine develop.
Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has previously promoted debunked theories linking vaccines to autism.
In April, he said that his agency would have answers this month on the causes of autism.
The head of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists issued a statement that said in part, “Previous research confirms there is no clear evidence linking acetaminophen [Tylenol] to autism.”
The maker of Tylenol, Kenvue, also issued a statement saying, “Acetaminophen is the safest pain reliever option for pregnant women as needed throughout their entire pregnancy. Without it, women face dangerous choices: suffer through conditions like fever that are potentially harmful to both mom and baby, or use riskier alternatives.”
Trump’s announcement is expected to happen Monday at 4 p.m. ET.
