Treble-winning boss favourite to replace Brendan Rodgers as Celtic's next manager

Ange Postecoglou is being touted for a surprise return to Celtic Park as Brendan Rodgers faces mounting pressure following a dismal start to the season. The Hoops suffered a 2-0 loss to Dundee on Sunday, leaving the reigning champions trailing five points behind table-toppers Hearts after just eight matches. Celtic's sluggish start to the league campaign has been exacerbated by lacklustre performances in Europe. The Scottish titans failed to secure a spot in the Champions League group stage and have struggled in the Europa League, managing only a single point from their opening two fixtures. These underwhelming displays have put head coach Brendan Rodgers under significant strain. The Northern Irishman's contract expires at the end of the season, and if this poor run of form persists, he may not see out his full tenure. Given these circumstances, former manager Postecoglou has emerged as the favourite to reclaim the reins in Glasgow. Gambling.com, experts in sports betting and casino reviews, have priced Postecoglou at 6/4 to succeed Rodgers as the next Celtic boss, suggesting a 40% chance of him returning to Celtic. Postecoglou, who was dismissed by Nottingham Forest on Saturday after a mere 39 days at the helm, isn't the only contender for the role. Former Borussia Dortmund manager Edin Terzic is priced at 3/1, while Irish pair Damien Duff (7/1) and Robbie Keane (8/1) are also in the running should Rodgers depart. Following Sunday's defeat at Dundee - their first loss there in 37 years - Rodgers expressed his concern over his team's lack of scoring power. "Listen, it's not all linear and all smooth right the way through the season. That's for sure. I think the challenge from the summer, now leading into here, where we lost a lot of firepower, a lot of goals out on the team. "And there's no way you'll go into a race and be given the keys to a Honda Civic and say, 'I want you to drive it like a Ferrari'. It's not going to happen. "So until something changes, I have to find the solutions. Because like I said, goals, speed, everything has come out of the team and we need to find a way to be better. It was clear in the summer, but it's really the past now. There's nothing we can do about it. "We had the opportunities to do what we needed to do. It didn't happen, so now it's finding ways, whether it's 4-3-3, whether it's 3-4-3, whether it's 3-5-2. We're trying to look at all these different permutations within the team."
