Travis Kelce Incident Draws Pushback From Patrick Mahomes

Travis Kelce Incident Draws Pushback From Patrick Mahomes

The Kansas City Chiefs ended their winless start to the season on Sunday, September 21, with an impressive win over the New York Giants, 22-9. It was great to get their first victory of the season, especially after what seemed like a long drought of losses, even if it was only two.
So, the Kansas City Chiefs are 1-2 for the season, and hopefully they’ll be 2-2 after taking on the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday, September 28. Playing Lamar Jackson and the Ravens is no joke, and it’s going to be a tough game to win, but one advantage that the Chiefs have is that the Ravens are playing Monday Night Football on Monday, September 22, so they won’t have a full week off before seeing the Chiefs. The Chiefs-Ravens game is also at Arrowhead, which should help.
During the game, Travis Kelce of the Chiefs got attention when he seemed to get into a spat of sorts with head coach Andy Reid. Now, Reid and Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes are speaking out about that incident.
Andy Reid and Travis Kelce Incident During Kansas City Chiefs Game
Kelce and Reid have shared many heated moments together. One took place during Super Bowl LVIII against the San Francisco 49ers, and that incident went viral. At the time, Kelce and Taylor Swift were only a few months into dating each other, so everyone was hyper-focused on Kelce and his behavior on the field.
During Sunday’s game against the Ravens, Kelce was spotted getting into a heated talk with Reid during the first half. Reid ended up giving Kelce a shoulder pump and walked by the tight end, probably knowing that the best thing to do in this situation is to cool off and walk about.
After the game, Reid was asked about that moment. He was very positive about Kelce and basically said that his angst is a sign that he’s super passionate about the game, which is a good thing.
“I love Travis’ passion, man,” Reid said, as reported by ESPN. “I’m OK with that. We didn’t have enough of it in the second quarter. It wasn’t where we needed it to be, so, within reason, he knows when to back off the pedal and knows when to push it too.”
“That’s the part I love about him,” he added. “The guy is all-in. Sometimes, I have to be the policeman. He’s an emotional guy.”
Patrick Mahomes Pushes Back on Critics of On-Field Incident
As for Kelce’s take, according to ESPN, he wasn’t in the Kansas City Chiefs’ locker room when reporters were allowed to come in and start interviewing players and coaches. But, Mahomes was there, and he had some kind words to say. Mahomes also pushed back on anyone who thought the interaction was out of line.
“He’s a guy that loves it,” Mahomes said of Kelce, according to ESPN. “That’s what’s made him so great. I know they love each other. That’s what you want out of the greats.”
During the Chiefs’ game last Sunday, September 14 against the Eagles, Kelce also had a little outburst at the sidelines and was seen throwing some stuff on the field. The cameras at Fox Sports caught the outburst as the first half was wining down, and it showed Kelce throwing his helmet down and yelling something towards his team.
Kelce, indeed, is passionate about the NFL and the Chiefs, which is a great thing. Let’s hope he cools down on the field, though, because the Chiefs need him and he can’t risk getting ejected for having a passionate moment in the wrong context.
