Travis Kelce Breaks Silence on Argument With Andy Reid

Travis Kelce Breaks Silence on Argument With Andy Reid

The Kansas City Chiefs nabbed their first win of the 2025 NFL season after defeating the New York Giants on Sunday Night Football in Week 3.
While Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce didn’t play a huge factor into the team’s 22-9 victory, recording four catches for 26 yards, his sideline spat with head coach Andy Reid caught viewers’ attention. During the heated interaction, Reid approaches Kelce and pushes his shoulder into the veteran as the two exchange words.
Heading into halftime, NBC analyst Melissa Stark asked Reid about the confrontation. “We’ve seen a lot of frustration and emotion from your key players, star players, on the sideline. What’s your message to the team?” Stark asked.
“That’s OK,” Reid replied. “We need some juice. So that’s good.”
Reid addressed the situation after the game, as well. “He knows when to back off the pedal and he knows when to push it too,” the 67-year-old head coach said of Kelce, per CBS Sports. “And that’s part of what I love about him, the guy’s all in. Just, sometimes, I have to be the policeman.”
“He’s a passionate guy, and I love that part,” Reid continued. “I’ve been through a lot of things with him, so that’s all part of it. I love that he loves to play the game, that’s what I love. And it’s an emotional game, so I’ll take it.”
Chiefs TE Travis Kelce Has Nothing But Love For Andy Reid Following Yet Another Sideline Spat
While the Chiefs prepare for a tough matchup against the Baltimore Ravens in Week 4, The Kansas City Star’s Sam McDowell asked Kelce for his view on the viral sideline spat.
“What Andy made of it. I love that guy, man,” the 35-year-old answered. “There’s nothing outside of this building that’s going to make me feel any different way. We know exactly each other’s intentions. I think what Coach Reid does best is he challenges guys to be at their best, and I love that about him. It definitely helped me take my game to another level that game.”
Video of Kelce screaming at Reid during Super Bowl LVIII went viral in February 2024. Reid brushed off that incident, as well.
“He keeps me young,” Reid told reporters after the Chiefs’ overtime win. “It tested that hip out. He caught me off balance. Usually, I’d give him a little bit [back], but I didn’t have any feet under me.”
Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes Offered His Opinion on Travis Kelce & Andy Reid’s Relationship
Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, who completed 22-of-37 passes for 224 yards and a touchdown against the Giants, also addressed the Kelce-Reid situation. The three-time Super Bowl MVP is on the same page as his teammate and coach.
“You know what’s crazy is I didn’t even know about it until after the game,” Mahomes said while appearing on 96.5 The Fan this week. “I think, more than anything, man, it’s just two people that love football and love the Kansas City Chiefs and love each other, and so we’re passionate.
“We love the game. We want to be at our best every single time we step on the field. And I think more than anything, man, it just made us play even better. You know the guys love each other and that they’re showing passion, you know it’s for the right reasons. And so we’ll go out there and continue to get better and better.”
