While Transformers One isn't getting a movie sequel, the upcoming Transformers and G.I. Joe crossover show should prove to be the perfect replacement. When Transformers One first premiered, it seemed to be the answer to the prayers of fans of the franchise: a mature take on the franchise with a complexity not seen in decades. At their best, Michael Bay's Transformers movies are deeply flawed, and when it comes to other TV shows and movies in the Transformers franchise, you're only going to find productions decades old and generally aimed at younger viewers. Transformers One felt like the movie for longtime fans, filled with thoughtful and mature characters and plot. Despite an 89% on Rotten Tomatoes and acclaim from longtime fans and newcomers alike, the film was a box office disappointment, and any hopes of a sequel film were quickly dashed. With the announcement of a G.I. Joe x Transformers crossover, Transformers faithful may have just the thing to reward their fandom. Transformers & GI Joe's Adult Animated Series Sounds Perfect For Transformers One Fans In October 2025, it was announced that Skybound Entertainment and Hasbro Entertainment were teaming up to produce Energon Universe, an adult animated series based on G.I. Joe, Transformers, and Void Rivals properties. Robert Kirkman, the creator of the Invincible comics and the TV adaptation, is set to helm. Transformers One and Energon Universe are separate projects. The series will have the adult sensibilities of Invincible, a tone that continues to be popular in recent animation fare, with shows like Love Death + Robots and Creature Commandos. Energon Universe has been a popular comic series since 2023, and it is just the thing to satisfy fans of Transformers One who were hoping for a sequel. Like Transformers One, Energon Universe will feature a complex, adult, and most likely violent storyline, as the characters from G.I. Joe and Transformers come into contact with one another. People love Transformers One and Invincible for their mature stories that never forget to have fun, so Energon Universe should be the perfect collision of ideas. An Adult Transformers Animated Show Is A Pleasant Surprise After Transformers One's Performance Transformers One is not the only movie to be a critical and audience hit and still suffer at the box office. No matter how high the Rotten Tomatoes score or how many people on the internet wrote about their approval, none of it could overcome a $129 million box office gross on an estimated $147 million budget.
