Trains were delayed and a cordon put in place after a bomb squad was called to a train station in England. The Explosive Ordnance Disposal unit and other emergency services descended on the scene following reports of a 'suspicious' incident near to Stockport railway station. The incident took place last night on Tuesday (November 4), with a 200m cordon put in place. The emergency response was focused around a footbridge. It left trains unable to serve the station - which is on the direct line to Birmingham New Street. Northern Rail issued a 'do not travel' warning on its routes last night. However the item was examined and it turned out to be an empty suitcase, meaning railway lines have since reopened. A Greater Manchester Police spokesperson said: "Along with the EOD and other emergency services, we have been dealing with an incident on Greek Street in Stockport this evening after reports of a 'suspicious' item on a bridge. "Fortunately, the 'device' has been examined and found to be an empty suitcase, and the cordons are being lifted. "Thanks for everyone's patience."
