Train services cancelled and delayed across Greater Manchester following points failure

Train services have been hit following a points failure this evening. Services were being cancelled or delayed following the points failure at Wigan Wallgate railway station. Engineers were said to be on site attempting to rectify the issue but meanwhile train services across the north west are being affected, including services through Manchester Oxford Road and Stalybridge , according to an update from Northern trains. Northern said in a bulletin posted on X this evening: "Due to a points failure at Wigan Wallgate train services running through this station may be cancelled, delayed or revised. "Network Rail are aware of the fault and engineers are on site. The following services may be affected by this disruption in both directions: Stalybridge / Manchester Oxford Road; Southport services; Headbolt Lane; Blackburn services; Leeds; Wigan Wallgate services." --- Day in day out, our reporters in the Manchester Evening News newsroom bring you remarkable stories from all aspects of Mancunian life.
