TRAI New Service: Now the real names of the phone callers will be visible, cyber fraudsters will be tightened.

More than 60 percent of people nationwide receive two to three spam calls or SMS every three days. These calls lure people into taking out loans, getting credit cards, winning a lottery, or purchasing a company’s service or goods. TRAI New Service: The Caller’s Real Name (CNAP) feature will be implemented nationwide by March next year. This initiative is aimed at preventing fraudulent calls, cyber fraud, and digital arrests. This will allow consumers to identify who is calling them, enabling them to identify fraudulent calls. Spam calls are difficult to identify because these numbers resemble regular mobile numbers. Therefore, people often pick up these calls. According to statistics, more than 60 percent of people across the country receive two to three spam calls or SMS every three days. Through these calls, people are lured into taking out loans, getting credit cards, winning a lottery, or purchasing a service or product from a company. All these calls and messages are made without customer consent. The new feature will also make it easier to identify calls from unknown numbers. This will completely eliminate the need for third-party apps. The feature will be enabled by default. This feature will be enabled by default for all users. TRAI had previously recommended that CNAP be made available only to willing consumers, but the Department of Telecommunications believed that this service should be automatically provided to everyone to curb fraud and cybercrime. However, consumers who do not use this feature will have the option to deactivate it. If there are multiple SIM cards in the same name in a family, Regarding how this will be implemented if different members of the same family use numbers registered in the same name, the department clarified that currently, only the name of the person whose KYC (Know Your Customer) is valid will be displayed. Later, the feature of adding a user’s name will be developed. The department stated that even in the case of multiple numbers taken by a single organization, the name of the person whose KYC is valid will appear. Exemptions Possible The government is also considering TRAI’s recommendation that the names of consumers who have access to the Calling Line Identification Restriction (CLIR) facility will not be displayed. This facility is provided to special users, officials of central intelligence agencies, and important individuals. The need for third-party apps will be eliminated Currently, mobile users use apps like Truecaller to find out the caller’s name. However, these apps also have a major problem. They display the caller’s name only as saved on their mobile phone. In many cases, users save a nickname or short name instead of the actual name of an acquaintance. Consequently, this name appears when calling. Even in cases of calls from unknown numbers, there’s no guarantee that the real name will be displayed. The person receiving the call will see the name stored in the app companies’ databases. Truecaller’s Business Revenue is generated through advertising, premium subscriptions, and selling verification services to businesses. Revenue in the last financial year Advertising revenue ₹1,083 crore ₹165 crore from premium subscriptions ₹136 crore from verification services for businesses Over 75 percent of revenue comes from India 250 million monthly active users in India Read More: Vehicle’s KYV Verification: Your FASTag will be deactivated if you do not get your vehicle’s KYV verified, Check details
