Al-Hilal star Ruben Neves keeping doors open for a potential Tottenham move in the winter
Tottenham are already preparing for January incomings as Thomas Frank aims to bolster the squad for the second half of the season. The Danish tactician has made it clear that he wants the Lilywhites to compete on all four fronts this season, so they cannot afford any slip-ups.
It has become clear that the North London club lack firepower in the middle of the park. Fans will hope Spurs prioritise that before looking to sort out any other problems on the pitch in January. As it stands, Frank has only João Palhinha who can naturally operate as a No. 6 for the team week in, week out. But the 30-year-old cannot play every game and will need to rest at some point due to fatigue.
The Lilywhites also have Yves Bissouma, who can operate in the same position for Frank. But the Mali international is out of contention after falling down the pecking order under the Danish tactician. Bissouma’s disciplinary issues have virtually ended his career at N17, with a January exit becoming a realistic possibility.
Tottenham might be able to land Al-Hilal star Ruben Neves in January
It was reported earlier that Tottenham are keeping tabs on Al Hilal star Rúben Neves for a January transfer. The Portugal international has entered the final year of his contract at the Saudi club, indicating he is not aiming to extend his stay. The report also stated that Al Hilal are willing to part ways with the 28-year-old if their £17 million valuation is met in the winter.
Now, there is a new update in the transfer saga involving Neves. As per Graeme Bailey (via TBR Football),
“I am told that Neves thinks there is ‘unfinished’ business in England – he had a wonderful time at Molineux and he is still highly respected. But it is not a given that he moves back to England. A return to Portugal would be considered whilst there is strong interest in Spain and Italy too.”
The journalist added,
“He is not going to be short of options. It is believed that Neves, given his substantial earnings during his stay in Saudi Arabia, won’t be looking for similar wages – he is in a good position that he will be able to choose the best club for him – this move will not be about the finances.”
Bailey reports that Rúben Neves wants a Premier League return in the winter as he wants to finish what he started in England. However, he has not ruled out a move to Portugal, Spain or Italy as we get closer to the January window. Bailey also states that Neves is willing to reduce his wages to secure a move away from Saudi Arabia quickly.
As long as Rúben Neves is available for a potential transfer, Spurs should do everything they can to sign him. The 28-year-old would bring experience and composure in the middle of the park. His ability to create chances from deep, along with his long shots, would instantly make him a standout player under Thomas Frank. Will Neves end up at N17 though? Only time will tell.
