Tottenham in a four-way battle for Serie A star; ‘concrete interest’ confirmed

Tottenham are set to battle with Newcastle United, Manchester United and Barcelona for the signing of Napoli star Scott McTominay Tottenham Hotspur have done well in the opening months of the new season under Thomas Frank. Spurs find themselves just a point outside of the Premier League top-four, having lost only two of their first 11 matches. The north Londoners have seen a marked improvement in defensive organisation since Thomas Frank took charge in June. The players appear unified and have clarity over their roles and responsibilities in every phase of the game. However, despite the positive performances, there are still some key areas that need to be addressed if Thomas Frank and Co. are to remain competitive during the second half of the season. The next step for Tottenham is to strengthen their midfield unit in the upcoming transfer window. They must aim to bring in a box-to-box force who can operate alongside Joao Palhinha in the middle of the park and also chip in with goals and assists. Tottenham in a four-way battle for Napoli fan favourite Scott McTominay According to CaughtOffside’s The Daily Briefing, Tottenham are in a four-way battle with Manchester United, Newcastle United and Barcelona for the signing of Napoli midfielder Scott McTominay. The Scotland international departed Manchester United for €30.5 million in the summer of 2024 and proved a roaring success for Napoli in his debut season. He played a massive role in Napoli’s Scudetto success under Antonio Conte, netting 12 goals in the league. The goal scoring midfielder’s achievements were recognised in Naples as he finished 18th in the 2025 Ballon d’Or list. The sensational form of Scott McTominay has seen Premier League clubs take note, with both Spurs and Newcastle planning to bring him back to England. There is also interest from defending Spanish champions Barcelona, though it is not looking that likely that he’d leave Napoli. The report adds the Naples-based outfit could demand up to €50m to sell McTominay; however, no concrete price tag has been set until now. “There is concrete interest in Scott McTominay,” CaughtOffside reporter Mark Brus exclusively revealed. “Manchester United would have him back, and keep an eye on Newcastle and Tottenham. Barcelona also view him as someone who could be a good fit for their midfield.” Highly unlikely McTominay leaves Napoli midway through the campaign Napoli haven’t hit the heights of last season and currently lie fourth in the Serie A standings. Antonio Conte did not take any prisoners after reacting to Napoli’s defeat to Bologna on Sunday, hinting at potentially quitting his job if situation in Naples does not improve. Despite a toxic environment brewing behind the scenes, the Serie A side are unlikely to let go their star performers in the middle of the season. And that includes McTominay, who has registered three goal contributions in 10 league outings. Unless and until one of his suitors come up with an exorbitant offer, the Scot looks likely to stay at Napoli for another year, at least. It now depends on whether Tottenham would be ready to pay a premium to sign the ex-Man United star.
