Tottenham could be forced to stick with current options next January, Journo confirms

Journo claims Tottenham Hotspur could find it difficult to sign a striker in the January transfer window In Thomas Frank’s first transfer window as the Tottenham Hotspur boss, the club focused on signing players who had already proven their quality across Europe, spending a total of £180 million to strengthen the squad. The arrivals of Mathys Tel, Mohammed Kudus, Xavi Simons, Randal Kolo Muani, Kota Takai and Joao Palhinha were well-planned deals to close the gap on Spurs’ rivals. However, it goes without saying that the north Londoners are nowhere near the finished article under Thomas Frank and still have a lot of deficiencies in the squad. The recent 2-1 defeat to Aston Villa documented the north London club’s problems in front of goal. Mathys Tel was anonymous for the time he was on the pitch before being substituted, while Richarlison barely made an impact off the bench. Randal Kolo Muani finally made his Premier League debut in a Tottenham shirt, but it was not noteworthy as he missed a chance to score an equaliser. Thus, the Hotspur Way chiefs have started planning to sign a striker in the January transfer window. Several strikers from European leagues have been linked with a move to Tottenham in recent weeks. FC Porto striker Samu Aghehowa has emerged as a prime target, with newly-appointed co-sporting director Fabio Paratici a big admirer of the youngster’s talent. Juventus star Dusan Vlahovic is also on the Lilywhites’ agenda, while Ivan Toney of Al Ahli is being pursued as well. Tottenham may not be able to sign a striker in January Thomas Frank has a lack of options up top currently due to injury and poor form, which is badly hurting his side from getting positive results on a consistent basis. The likes of Richarlison and Tel are struggling with consistency, whereas Dominic Solanke remains out following a minor ankle surgery. Kolo Muani has returned to action after almost a month on the sidelines due to a dead leg, so he is expected to take some time to get back to full speed and rhythm. While Tottenham are putting plans in place to recruit a new striker, it looks like their efforts may not bear fruit. According to Football Insider’s transfer correspondent Pete O’Rourke, Spurs will struggle to bring in a new No.9 in the January transfer window and may be forced to stick with their current options. This is because it would be extremely difficult to do business in the winter window and sign a quality striker, potentially forcing Frank to work with the players at his disposal. Spurs must push to sign Dusan Vlahovic Dusan Vlahovic is one of the names on Tottenham’s striker shortlist. The Juventus star is in the final 10 months of his contract, and with no plans for a new deal, he will leave on a free transfer next summer. The Turin giants do not want to lose him on a free transfer and remain keen to cash him in during the winter window. As per fresh reports, Juventus want around €15 million to part ways with Vlahovic in the New Year. The idea to accept such a bargain fee is to move on the Serbian international’s hefty wages from their books. If we are to believe the reports, Tottenham have to be all over the 25-year-old’s signing. He’d be an upgrade on the injury prone Richarlison and give Tottenham a big presence in the box. If the Lilywhites are serious about clinching a top-four finish and winning a trophy, the board must back Frank with a striker in the form of Vlahovic.
