Top College Football Coach is Choosing Between Florida and UCLA

There are 12 open college football head coaching jobs in the FBS, and nine of those belong to Power 4 programs. More News: Auburn Given College Football Playoff Warning After Firing Hugh Freeze With so many job openings in early November, athletic directors are facing a challenge to find an upgrade over a recently fired head coach. Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin appears to be the top target for elite programs like Florida and LSU, but it’s unclear if he has any intentions of leaving the Rebels. SEATTLE, WASHINGTON – NOVEMBER 02: Head coach Jedd Fisch of the Washington Huskies and head coach Lincoln Riley of the USC Trojans talk before the game at Husky Stadium on November 02, 2024 in Seattle, Washington. Per 247 Sports, Washington head coach Jedd Fisch has some interest in taking the open UCLA job, but would take the job at Florida (if offered) first. He’s also considering sticking around with the Huskies. Via 247 Sports: “We continue to hear conflicting information about Fisch. Initially the word was absolutely put out there by sources close to him that he was interested in the UCLA job — and it was more than just a leverage tactic. Then it was downplayed, to the point that some were saying he’s not interested. “But now recently the feeling is that he would be interested if the terms were right. But there’s also now a pretty strong sense that he’d take the Florida job first. Washington sources maintain he doesn’t want to leave Washington. So there’s something for everybody concerning Fisch.” Fisch, 49, went 6-7 with the Huskies in 2024. He has Washington ranked No. 24 with a 6-2 record before traveling to play Wisconsin on Saturday. Fisch went 16-21 during his three years at Arizona before taking over the Huskies. He went 1-11 in 2021 before turning around the Wildcats, going 10-3 in his final season with the program in 2023. Fisch has good reason to want to land with the Gators. He graduated from Florida and worked as a graduate assistant for the Gators under then-head coach Steve Spurrier in 1999 and 2000.
