Everyone knows that there are many games, such as Stardew Valley, which offer players the chance to find love in the digital world. Over the years, video games have provided many ways to find a little romance, including some cutscenes that can get a little spicy. Sometimes the romance is part of the story, while other times the player can make a choice about whom to cozy up to. These relationships may be with a fictional NPC, but the in-game dialogue and emotions behind the events can give the player a memorable experience.
Whether players are finding love in life sims like Story of Seasons or while adventuring alongside romantic NPCs in an RPG like Baldur’s Gate 3, video games have no shortage of flirtation. In fact, thinking of video game romances can bring to mind a list of hundreds of possibilities.
Everyone will undoubtedly have their own favorites, which is part of the fun! I have tried to have a mix of well-known characters and some that offer memorable experiences across a range of genres, but I know it will be impossible for it to cover everyone’s favorites.
10 Romancing Persona 5’s Ann Takamaki Reveals A Deep Character
Much More Than Just A Bubbly Personality
When you play Persona 5 and are looking at romance options, at first it can seem as though Ann doesn’t care much whether you like her or not, but that is far from the case. She is one of the earliest party members to join the group and has a depth to her character that is revealed early on.
After forming a relationship, her seemingly lackluster interest in the main character falls, and she reveals that she needs to lean on you. She may be one of the easiest to romance, partly due to her early introduction in the game, but that doesn’t make her story any less meaningful.
9 Cliff Is A Shy Traveler In Story Of Seasons: Friends Of Mineral Town
He Will Leave The Game If You Don’t Hurry Before He Moves Away
Story of Seasons (formerly known as the original Harvest Moon series) has always offered many romantic options for players in their games. It is hard to pick just one game, much less just one character arc, to include, as these games generally do a good job of giving players a thoughtful mix of romantic possibilities to pursue.
In the remake of Friends of Mineral Town, Cliff is a lonely traveler who distances himself from everyone. His story is a more emotionally complex one than is usually seen, stemming a lot from his loneliness. Helping him get a job and keeping him in town can lead to a life of love as his sweet nature is unveiled.
8 Siora’s Romantic Connection In Greedfall Feels Deeper Than Just Attraction
Siora Is Romanceable Whether The Main Character Is Male Or Female
In Greedfall, players can choose between several amazing characters to romance, including Siora. While many times there can be romance in games such as this that feels built on attraction or the heat of the moment, Siora’s feels like genuine love and friendship.
Siora’s dialogue shows that she is empathetic and understanding, and opens up about her own emotions while also encouraging you to open up about your own. Getting to know Siora also allows for a better understanding of the culture on Teer Fradee and can make the game feel richer.
7 Semeru, Because Who Wouldn’t Want To Romance A Merfolk In Coral Island?
He May Be Highly Distrusting Of Land-Dwellers, But You Can Change His Mind
The cozy farming sim Coral Island has lots of great choices for romantic options living on land in the city, but once you dive beneath the ocean there are even more available suitors among the community of Merfolk.
Semeru is one of these handsome underwater bachelors, although first meeting him reveals that he is not the most friendly. He does not like the people living on land and is very cautious of you.
As you get to know Semeru better, you learn a lot about his past traumas that make some of his cold manners understandable. Unfortunately, while dating Semeru, he does say some rather controlling comments, but these slowly fade away as the relationship deepens, suggesting that the farmer has convinced him to change his ways.
6 Panam Is One Of Many Choices For V In Cyberpunk 2077
Romancing Panam Can Lead To One Of The Best Endings In The Game
While exploring Night City in Cyberpunk 2077, V forms friendships with several characters, including many who can become more than just friends. Panam is only an option for a masculine V option, and lives her life as a mercenary.
Panam isn’t the easiest to woo, and you must satisfactorily complete several quests, starting with Ghost Town, with Panam before any romance can happen. However, getting to know this fiesty woman reveals a wonderful story and can even give players the best ending to Cyberpunk 2077 possible.
5 Penny Is A Comfortable And Sweet Love Story In Stardew Valley
She Can Be Emotionally Guarded From Her Backstory
Penny has had a rough life, but does her best to keep a cheerful attitude. Not only has she had to take care of her alcoholic mother, Pam, she works hard to make things better for everyone.
She has taken it upon herself to tutor Jas and Vincent, since there is no proper school system in Stardew Valley, and cleans and cooks for her mom. Her life may have a bit of a sad edge to it, but once you gain more hearts with her, you can help her mom with her alcoholism and eventually marry Penny, bringing home a wonderful partner for the farmer.
4 Yennefer Offers A Complex Love Story For Geralt In The Witcher 3
Triss And Yennefer Are Both Options, But Yennefer Is The Canonical Choice
Geralt inadvertently bound Yennefer to himself after a situation with a djinn’s spell, causing some very reasonable confusion. It would be hard to know if feelings are real when a situation like that is happening.
The relationship between the two is not an easy one, with the strong personalities of each of them leading to some pretty substantial fights, at times feeling even a little toxic. Throwing in the little fact of not knowing if their attraction is only because of the djinn or is real, things can get complicated.
Ultimately, after the spell is broken, they are able to see that their feelings are real, and a true romance is allowed to blossom. It is a love story with twists and turns, but just like any good romance novel, they can end up together in the end.
3 Liara’s Relationship With Shepard Grows Over The Mass Effect Trilogy
By Mass Effect 3, Their Story Can Be Beautiful
Mass Effect is another series known for having incredibly well-thought-out connections and NPC backstories, as well as several romance options. It is hard to choose between Garrus and Liara for which gives the better romance arc, but there is something to be said for the progression that happens in Liara’s character throughout the series.
Liara T’Soni is not well liked by players in the first game, at least as far as being a relationship prospect. However, throughout the second game, players can see a shift in her character’s personality as she sees more of the world. By the third game, she and Shepard are much more compatible, and a romance can truly stand on a foundation that they created over the first two games.
2 Morrigan And Alistair Are Both Memorable Loves In Dragon Age: Origins
Depending On If The Main Character Is Male Or Female
Perhaps Morrigan is the more traditional choice for the best romance option in Dragon Age: Origins. However, a portion of my heart will always belong to Alistair. Both characters have a rich depth to their narratives, and Morrigan’s appearances in other Dragon Age games, including The Veilguard, have certainly given her points.
Alistair is the sweet and earnest paladin, and although he may be a bit one-dimensional at times, romancing him can make the story incredibly immersive, with his importance to the narrative.
Meanwhile, Morrigan is a challenge to romance, but her strong personality and interesting dialogue can catch a player off guard and make for a fun experience.
1 Astarion, Everyone’s Favorite Vampire In Baldur’s Gate 3
Baldur’s Gate 3 Is Full Of Sexy Characters, But Astarion Is Unforgettable
Even if you haven’t played Baldur’s Gate 3, you are likely all-too familiar with the game’s sexy vampire, Astarion. Perhaps one of the most scandalous, yet well-known, love scenes in a video game can lead to an incredibly sweet relationship.
Over the course of the game, we get to see Astarion’s growth as a person and his backstory, which is rich with interwoven trauma and philosophical pondering. The depth doesn’t end there either, with the very story of trying to have a relationship leading to several pros and cons to romancing Astarion.
