Tony Wood is stepping down as CEO of Buccaneer, the drama producer behind Marcella and the recently-renewed Paramount+ series The Crow Girl. His departure comes soon after that of former Buccaneer Co-CEO Richard Tulk-Hart who has set up scripted TV consultancy Volteo Media.
Buccaneer was formed as a joint-venture with producer-distributor Cineflix. Piers Vellacott, Cineflix’s Chief Commercial Officer, Content, and Executive Producer will now oversee Buccaneer.
Wood will now focus on executive producing. “After 12 years overseeing the business of Buccaneer alongside developing and executive producing every series we’ve made, the time is right to return to what I enjoy most: making programs,” he said in a statement. “I am massively grateful to Cineflix for the opportunity to have created this company and am thrilled that my first freelance gig is to complete my work alongside the team on The Crow Girl—a show very close to my heart.”
Buccaneer’s recent shows include In Flight, which recently bowed on Channel 4 in the UK. Its other credits include Leonard Cohen-inspired So Long, Marianne, The Burning Girls for Paramount+ and Netflix, cozy-crime show Whitstable Pearl and gritty drama Irvine Welsh’s Crime. It also made hit series Marcella.
Glen Salzman, Co-Founder and CEO, Cineflix said: “Since Cineflix partnered with Tony to set up Buccaneer, it has grown into a successful producer of premium, critically acclaimed dramas which have sold all around the world. We’re delighted to be maintaining our close relationship with Tony and Buccaneer’s talented team who continue to develop and deliver fantastic content.”
