Tom Parsons: Suggesting the GPA is more interested in money than nurturing its players is factually untrue

I read with interest Darragh McManus’s recent article (Why ‘guaranteed Irish’ GAA deserves more funding in Budget 2026, September 30) on sports funding and the role of the Gaelic Players Association (GPA).

Healthy debate about how taxpayers’ money is allocated is welcome, but it is important that readers are given the full picture of what intercounty players contribute to Irish society and what the GPA actually represents.
