While Tom Brady is best known for being arguably the best quarterback in NFL history with seven Super Bowls and three MVP awards, he was at one point also a part of one of the most famous couples in sports and entertainment. Brady and Brazilian model Gisele Bundchen began dating in 2006, and eventually went on to get married in 2009 in Santa Monica, California. They had two kids together and would remain married until 2022. However, over time it became more and more difficult for Brady to balance football and family, with him actually skipping OTAs in 2018 as a result of his wife’s frustration. “She didn’t feel I was doing my part for the family, you know,” Brady told CBS in 2020. “She felt like I would play football all season and she would take care of the house. And then all of the sudden when the season would end, that I’d be like, ‘Great, let me get into all my other business activities. Let me get into my football training,.’ She’s sitting there going, ‘Well, when are you going to do things for the house? When are you going to take the kids to school and do that?'” Ultimately, the two got divorced in 2022, and Bundchen revealed her reasoning to Harper Bazar’s Rosa Sanchez in 2023. When discussing the matter, Bundchen said, “Sometimes you grow together; sometimes you grow apart.” She also expressed that as they grew up, they realized their goals weren’t aligning. “When I was 26 years old and he was 29 years old, we met, we wanted a family, we wanted things together, ” Bundchen said. “As time goes by, we realize that we just wanted different things, and now we have a choice to make. That doesn’t mean you don’t love the person. It just means that in order for you to be authentic and truly live the life that you want to live, you have to have somebody who can meet you in the middle, right? It’s a dance. It’s a balance.” Bundchen did say that despite the split they are a “team,” but ultimately things just didn’t work out.
