The TNPSC conducted the Group 4 examination on July 12 for the vacant Group 4 posts in the Tamil Nadu government departments. A total of 3,935 posts are to be filled under various categories, including Village Administrative Officer, Junior Assistant, and Typist. The Group 4 examination is a single-stage examination, and appointments are made based on the marks obtained in this first-stage examination. Consequently, candidates are now eagerly anticipating the release of the examination results.
The Public Service Commission has conducted Group 4 examinations seven times since 2013. Excluding the 2023 examination, the results of three examinations were released within five months, while the results of another three examinations were released within three months.
It has been more than a year since the results of the Group 4 examination to select 7,301 people in 2023 were announced, leading to considerable controversy. In response, the results of the Group 4 examination for the selection of 8,932 people last year (2024) were released within three months.
This year, Group 4 is considered one of the toughest examinations ever. Specifically, candidates and examination instructors reported that more than half of the 100 questions asked in the Tamil subject were very complex and not included in the syllabus. Approximately 13.89 lakh candidates applied for this examination, with 11.48 lakh candidates actually sitting for it. This means about 287 candidates are vying for each post, resulting in a selection rate of just under 0.35%. In other words, at least 3.5 out of 1,000 candidates will be selected.
With the assembly elections approaching in 2026, the selection commission is expected to release the examination results promptly to avoid additional stress for the candidates and political repercussions. Previously, TNPSC Chairman S.K. Prabhakar assured reporters that the exams are conducted with accountability and transparency, and the results would be published within three months.
The TNPSC Group 4 exam results can only be accessed through the examination board’s website, www.tnpscexams.in.
