President Bola Ahmed Tinubu visited the family of the late former President Muhammadu Buhari in Kaduna on Friday, pledging to sustain the values and legacies of the departed leader.
The condolence visit, marked by heartfelt exchanges, underscored Tinubu’s commitment to honoring Buhari’s contributions to Nigeria.Received at the Buhari family residence by the late president’s widow, Aisha, his eldest son, Yusuf, and other relatives, Tinubu expressed the nation’s shared grief.
In a statement by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the president said, “We are here to assure you that we share in your pain. A loss in flesh is not a loss in the spirit. The spirit of hard work, dedication, patriotism, and honesty that he left with us, we are doing that.”
Tinubu vowed to continue Buhari’s legacy, emphasizing, “We will continue on the path of honesty, integrity, and great character that he imbued in us. May God help Nigeria, keep us united, and together in the promised land.”
In an emotional response, Aisha Buhari thanked President Tinubu, the First Lady, and government officials for their support since her husband’s passing.
She praised Buhari’s virtues, urging Nigerians to emulate his commitment to honesty, integrity, and justice.
“I pray for peace, unity, and for you, President Tinubu, to carry on with my late husband’s legacy of tolerance, accountability, and justice,” she said.
The president was accompanied by prominent figures, including Senate President Godswill Akpabio, House Speaker Tajudeen Abbas, and governors Abdulrahman AbdulRazaq (Kwara), Mai Mala Buni (Yobe), Babagana Zulum (Borno), and Ahmed Aliyu (Sokoto).
Also present were Finance Minister Wale Edun, Budget and Economic Planning Minister Atiku Bagudu, Minister of State for Defence Bello Matawalle, and National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu.
