Sales agency The Playmaker has closed several distribution deals for the live-action children’s film “The Secret Floor,” following its festival run. The film will screen on Wednesday at AFM. The time-travel adventure has been picked up for distribution in the Baltics (Unlimited Media), India (BookMyShow), Latin America (Encripta), and Scandinavia (Sun Tower). Farbfilm is the German distributor, with a theatrical release set for March 12. The film centers on 12-year-old Karli, who moves to an old hotel in the Alps. There he discovers an elevator that holds a secret – it’s a magical time portal that transports him back to 1938. There, he befriends Hannah, a spirited Jewish girl, and Georg, a shoeshine boy. But when Georg is falsely accused of stealing, the children must solve a mystery hidden within the hotel’s walls, all while the shadow of Nazi Germany begins to grow around them. The film won best feature film at Zlín Film Festival from the children’s jury, best feature film and best actor at the Goldener Spatz Awards, the Tommy Hilfiger Special Award at Giffoni Film Festival, and the audience award at Junges Film Festival in Cologne. The children’s jury at Zlín said: “ ‘The Secret Floor’ was really cool! We really liked how the story was set half in the present and half in the past – it was interesting to see how it all gradually connected.” The film is produced by Norbert Lechner at Kevin Lee Film, Alexander Dumreicher-Ivanceanu at Amour Fou Vienna, Bady Minck at Amour Fou Luxembourg, and André Fetzer at Amour Fou Luxembourg.
