Growing up in these Caribbean islands, many people got an opportunity to gain an education or improve their knowledge, but plenty did not focus (or as we say) put their best foot forward. In other words, many opted out or basically did not pursue a career or simply became masters in any other way to simply survive. Hence the reason, when looking for a job, one would take any job available rather than a specific line of work. The workforce or general population has a lot of people who are either untrained, or under-skilled because they chose not to apply themselves to the task of becoming master of their trades with the opportunities they were given to learn. Many have become self-employed from investing the little they saved from what they earned, but do not know the fundamentals of perfection. So, for that reason, there are a lot of substandard workmen and women with low self-esteem, no professional mindset, who do not take standards into consideration and want top-dollars for shabby work. To my mind, all is not lost, but because it is usually only at school some may learn, I think it is time for the state to introduce trade schools for all ages, so each and every person, regardless of age, educational background or where they are from (ghetto or otherwise), have a chance to re-learn, if not for better job opportunities, at least help themselves. The other big problem is that many will not invest in or want to pay for an education, so I propose that they are offered a chance to earn while they learn, so that negativity will be extracted from the equation. We have to become better at what we do; employees or self-proclaimed workmen must be professional at all costs and we the clients or those who pay for selective service ought not to settle for substandard quality. Going back to learning to become more proficient can only enhance the quality of life for our citizens. The rest of the world is seeing about giving their citizens suitable means of survival, so we too, as a people and as a country, ought to find the means for our futuristic survival. The money that the government gets through taxes, grants and loans must be reinvested in the people to reduce crime and delequency in our society so more people can be empowered. More people have to become able and capable of finding meaningful employment and not have to beg, or depend on handouts or charity, to make ends meet. It’s also time to have a national employment agency that seeks to find the right person and skilled individual for the job. The government of the day (and those of the future) need forward-thinking ideas, So, to ovoid negativity among the masses, better must be done, because an educated and skilled workforce can only lead to satisfaction at all levels. Consider my opinion as food for thought, as I am truly a patriot and only want the best for us all, barring none.
