'Time Is Up' For Broncos Starting QB Bo Nix After Horrendous Start

On paper and in real life, there has been no NFL quarterback who has looked worse than Denver Broncos starter Bo Nix through the first 3 games of the regular season.
It’s a harsh reality the Broncos and their fans are having to deal with after a 1-2 start that’s been defined by back to back, last second losses to the Indianapolis Colts and Los Angeles Chargers in which Nix has looked woefully lost and unable to hit wide open wide receivers on deep passes.
“Nix missed a couple of bombs (against the Chargers),” Bill Simmons said on “The Bill Simmons” podcast on September 21. “He has now figured out how to hit a guy in stride by six inches too far, and he’ll hit like three fingertips, but never get the guy in stride. And it’s like, oh, he’s become the master at this.”
While the obvious and excruciating thing about watching Nix play this year has been the downfield misses, the numbers back up just how bad he’s been — he’s ranked 41st out of 43rd eligible NFL quarterbacks this season with a 47.8 overall grade from Pro Football Focus.
After a healthy dose of patience early in his rookie year before he started to adapt to playing in the NFL, it seems as if that patience no longer exists.
It’s a far cry from the optimism the Broncos entered the season with — a season where head coach Sean Payton declared his team Super Bowl contenders in training camp.
“Time is up for the Bo Nix fanfare and the Denver offense,” The Ringer’s Anthony Dabbundo wrote on his official X account.
Nix Lit Up On Social Media Following Loss
NFL fans — Broncos and otherwise — were unsparing after another terrible game from Nix, who went 14-of-25 passing for 153 yards and 1 touchdown against the Chargers, who have started the season 3-0 with all 3 wins over the other 3 AFC West teams.
“Bo Nix needs to take a long/hard look in the mirror and decide what he wants to be,” Mile High Sports’ Swipa Cam wrote on his official X account. “He is the reason the team is 1-2 and not 3-0. You’re the QB. I’m tired of you getting your dome rocked at the end of every game and falling apart when the team needs you.”
“Unpopular opinion in Colorado, but Bo Nix ain’t the guy,” NFL agent George Holley wrote on his official X account. “Real dudes don’t miss that many throws — and have to throw that many screens. Training wheels should be off now. They aren’t.”
Pattern Emerging With Nix Over 2 Seasons
An offseason of good headlines and great buzz may have made people forget Nix had a problem hitting wide open wide receivers last season — and in college.
The Broncos selected Nix with the No. 12 overall pick in the 2024 NFL draft.
