The University of Management and Technology (UMT) hosted an elegant launch ceremony for the latest publication of UMT Press, “Time: Scientific, Western and Islamic Concepts,” written by the late Prof Dr Hasan Sohaib Murad, an eminent educationist, visionary thinker, and reformer. The book presents a remarkable intellectual journey through the nature of time – from its measurable reality in science, to its philosophical interpretation in Western thought, and finally to its spiritual and moral dimensions in Islam. The ceremony was graced by President UMT and Former Provincial Minister Ibrahim Hasan Murad, Dr Naushaba Hasan Murad, Provost UMT Dr Asghar Zaidi, Prof. Abid Sherwani, DG UMT Ahmad Abdullah, and Lt. Gen. (R) Javed Hasan. Distinguished scholars and intellectuals including Prof. Ahmad Javed, Dr Khurshid Rizvi, Dr Amjad Saqib, Hafeezullah Khan Niazi, Syed Bilal Qutab, and Orya Maqbool Jan also attended, alongside a large audience of writers, researchers, teachers, and students. President UMT Ibrahim Hasan Murad, while formally unveiling the book, said that Dr. Hasan’s reflections remind us that time is not merely a flow of moments but a sacred trust – a measure of life, faith, and accountability. He added, “To understand time is to understand one’s purpose of existence. Dr. Hasan viewed time as the cornerstone of civilization – a society that learns to value time learns to progress.” Prof Ahmad Javed, who presided over the session, observed that Dr. Hasan’s treatment of time integrates the empirical with the eternal. “This book,” he said, “rescues time from mechanical reduction and restores its spiritual dignity. It reminds us that time is not to be consumed but to be contemplated – as a sign (ayah) of divine order.” Lt. Gen. (R) Javed Hasan noted that Dr. Hasan’s understanding of time reveals how scientific inquiry and spiritual consciousness can coexist harmoniously, guiding young minds toward a balanced worldview. Dr Khurshid Rizvi, celebrated poet and scholar, remarked that Dr. Hasan has succeeded in bridging classical Islamic thought with contemporary philosophical challenges. “His writing is marked by both clarity and conviction – he turns time into a mirror where intellect meets revelation.” Syed Bilal Qutab, spiritual scholar and media personality, said that Dr. Hasan Sohaib Murad viewed time as a moral currency – every moment spent with sincerity adds to the capital of the soul. He added that this book serves as “a wake-up call for a generation that measures time in speed but forgets its sanctity.” Orya Maqbool Jan described Dr. Hasan as a visionary leader who brought the Qur’anic understanding of time to the modern mind, saying, “Neither science nor Western philosophy can unveil the essence of time as profoundly as the Qur’an does.” Dr Amjad Saqib, founder of Akhuwat Foundation, reflected that time, in Dr. Hasan’s vision, is the measure of human action – a veil behind which life unfolds its meaning and accountability. Dr Naushaba Hasan Murad, Member of the UMT Board of Governors, thanked the guests and said that the author lived what he wrote – his disciplined use of time and his balance between worldly achievement and spiritual purpose were lessons in themselves. A special panel discussion followed, describing the book as a profound synthesis of science, philosophy, and revelation. The participants highlighted its originality, calling it a unique scholarly contribution that invites readers to rediscover time as a divine measure of human destiny. The ceremony concluded with readings of select excerpts and poetic tributes, paying homage to Dr. Hasan Sohaib Murad’s enduring legacy – a legacy that continues to inspire generations to see time not as a passing shadow, but as a sacred trust and a timeless responsibility.
