Tim Cook says iPhone price increase has nothing to do with tariffs

Tariffs have defined the tech industry this year, causing massive changes to product pricing, manufacturing, and distribution. However, one of the world’s biggest tech companies says that its hot new product isn’t actually being impacted by tariffs, despite a price increase.

Apple CEO Tim Cook was speaking with CNBC’s Jim Cramer when he addressed the tariffs being imposed by Donald Trump. “There’s no increase for tariffs in the prices to be totally clear,” he said, ensuring that no blame was placed on the side of the tariffs.

The iPhone 17 Pro, which was announced at an Apple Event earlier this month, starts at $1,099, a $100 increase from the usual starting price of iPhone Pro models. The iPhone air, a brand new product in Apple’s smartphone family, costs $100 more than the Air model that it replaced.

Tim Cook says these price hikes don’t come as a result of tariffs, but doesn’t provide an alternative explanation. Tim Cook recently attended a dinner at the White House alongside other tech CEOs and Donald Trump.
