It’s been 25 years since Tim Burton’s adaptation of Sleepy Hollow terrified fans around the world, but the tragic tale of Ichabod Crane and Katrina is finally getting a sequel in Return to Sleepy Hollow from IDW Dark.
Set long after the event of the film, a new horror is once again claiming lives in brutal fashion, teasing a supernatural power and thirst for blood far worse than the Headless Horseman. And Screen Rant is pleased to give fans an exclusive preview of the series, before it launches just in time for Halloween 2025.
With 15 years having passed since the events of the original film, the new comic series recruits Eisner Award–winning author Casey Gilly (Buffy the Last Vampire Slayer), Savanna Mayer, and Dearbhla Kelly, to once again put Ichabod Crane on a murder case only he can handle.
Return To Sleepy Hollow is A Direct Sequel, Set 15 Years Later
Based on the official synopsis, Ichabod Crane (played by Johnny Depp in the film) has apparently struggled to accept his undeniable encounter with the supernatural, as depicted on film. Still clinging to that which he can verify using hard science, his career has been built in debunking the occult and mystic.
After all, he is an (unwilling) expert on the real thing.a man of science and, despite his indisputable brush with the supernatural, has built a name for himself debunking claims of the occult across the world. Now estranged from his former lover Katrina Van Tassel (played by Christina Ricci), Ichabod is nevertheless dutybound when a letter arrives demanding his help… and he must Return to Sleepy Hollow once more.
But this new series from the horror-focused IDW Dark imprint will not only bring a sequel a quarter-century in the making. As Ichabod investigates the grisly murder spree, the history, origins, and horror of the Hollow itself will be expanded far beyond anything fans expect.
