Thug who assaulted, strangled and threatened to kill woman is sentenced

This is the face of a thug who assaulted, strangled and threatened to kill a woman. Marlon Johnson, 48, admitted four counts of assaulting a person thereby occasioning them actual bodily harm (ABH), two counts of intentional strangulation, two counts of assault by beating and one count of threats to kill. Staffordshire Police said Johnson launched a campaign of abuse on the woman between 2021 and 2023. Officers launched an investigation and began gathering all available evidence to bring him in for questioning and secure the charges. Due to the strength of this evidence and the bravery of the victim, Johnson admitted to the offences during a trial earlier this year. Johnson, from Burton-on-Trent, has now been jailed for more than seven years following a hearing at Stafford Crown Court on Monday, October 20. As part of his sentencing, he was also served with an indefinite restraining order, preventing him from making any contact with the victim. Speaking after the case, Sergeant Felicity Bownds, from the East Staffordshire local policing team, said: “I’d like to commend the victim in this case for reporting the abuse she suffered and for supporting our investigation, which has ultimately led to a dangerous offender being locked up for a number of years. “I hope this outcome gives her some form of closure and also shows other victims of violence, abuse and intimidation against women and girls that we are here for you. "We are determined to keep acting robustly against those responsible for harm in our communities.”
